Gamal Abdelghany lived in the Egyptian city of Alexandria since the day he was born in 1956. After completing his Bachelor’s Degree in 1979, Gamal was employed as a teaching assistant at the Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Alexandria. During that time, his passion in fine arts grew even more, which lead him to collaborate with several other faculty members from departments like Sculpture and Photography. Around that time, Gamal enrolled at the Fine Arts Syndicate, Division of Painting. He also, enrolled at the Syndicate of Engineers, Division of Architecture. Gamal participated in several fine arts exhibitions and galleries in association with the Fine Arts Syndicate. Eventually, he became the Board Chairman of the Housing Association for the Fine Arts Syndicate in 1997 and held that title for more than 5 years. He established a firm relationship with many Alexandrian artists and participated in the foundation of the ‘Monday Forum’ at the syndicate headquarters in Alexandria. Coincidentally, Gamal had the opportunity to find his own private fine arts gallery ‘Elmarssam’ next to the syndicate’s headquarters, which reaffirmed his relationship with many Alexandrian fine artists.
In the summer of 1984, Gamal participated in The Committee of Heritage Conservation in Alexandria, in association with The Comprehensive Planning of Alexandria for 2005 project. In the course of that project, he produced 75 visual architecture perspective panels for a number of monuments and buildings that are registered as heritage. All of these panels are documented in the project report at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina. In 1998, Gamal joined a consulting architectural group from the Faculty of Fine Arts to work on the urban development of Alexandria, which included developing the Main Train Station in Downtown Alexandria, the Desert Entrance at the outskirts of Alexandria, and the Alexandria Sea Front.
Since 2000, Gamal has been working abroad as an Associate Professor at the College of Architecture and Planning, University of Dammam in Saudi Arabia. In 2008, he earned a fortunate opportunity to join a consulting architectural group for working on the expansion of Al-Mataf at the Holy Mosque in Makkah. During his stay for 16 years in the city of Al-Khobar, which shares several attributes with Alexandria, Gamal participated in several architectural competitions and projects, as well as projects to develop many squares in the cities of Saudi Arabia.
