Mohamed Yousef(1939 - 1995), He specialized in painting, graduating from the Faculty of Fine Arts in 1962 and obtaining a diploma from the Leonardo da Vinci Institute (Painting Department) in 1966. He was a member of the artists’ studios at Wekalat Al Ghouri since 1962, a founding member of the Syndicate of Fine Artists, a founding member of the Al-Ghouri Artists Association, and a member of the Artists and Writers Group at Atelier Cairo and the National Fine Arts Association. Mohamed Yousef worked as a chief operations officer at aircraft factories under the Arab Organization for Industrialization and was a board member of the Aircraft Factory Club. He lived in several places, including popular neighborhoods in Cairo (Sayeda Zeinab and Al-Hussein) and the governorates of New Valley, North Sinai (Arish and Rafah), and Wadi Halfa.
He held seven solo exhibitions, and his works were displayed in cultural palaces across several governorates, as well as exhibitions in Cairo Opera House (1997), Atelier Cairo (1998, 2001), and Mohamed Nagy Hall at Atelier Cairo (2003, 2007). He participated in 87 group exhibitions across Egypt since 1966, including the First Salon of Photography at the Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery, Bab El-Louq (1963); all sessions of the Art Market held at the Faculty of Fine Arts Gallery (1967-1981); the Annual General Exhibition of Fine Arts, organized by the Ministry of Culture (1974-1991); Al-Ghouri Artists Association Exhibitions (1974-1991); Spring Exhibition (1974-1980); Motherhood Exhibitions (1975-1983); Atelier Cairo Salon (1975-1981); Nature and Heritage Group Exhibitions (1981-1989); National Fine Arts Association Salon (1981-1991); Cairo in the Eyes of Artists Competition (1986); Desert Competition (1987); Nile Competition (1991); Tribute Exhibition at Atelier Cairo (1995); Group Exhibition at Al-Ghouri Artists Association (1996); First Gallery Salon at Shadicor Gallery (2007); “Art for Every Family” Exhibition at Shadicor Gallery in Heliopolis (2010); Group exhibitions at private galleries between (2010 – 2023). Mohamed Yousef traveled extensively across Egypt, especially visiting oases in the Western Desert and Sinai. He was assigned several artistic missions, including supervising, alongside artist Sayed Abu Saud, the Comprehensive Development Exhibition for Desert Communities in 1975. He was also a member of the Fine Arts Committee at the First Cultural Conference in 1977 and was invited multiple times to the New Valley Governorate for artistic projects and exhibitions. In addition to his artistic career, he designed catalogs for exhibitions of fellow artists and art associations, and a book about him was written by Ibrahim Mahareeq in 1978.
He received several awards and recognitions, including a Certificate of Appreciation from the General Information Authority (1971), an Honorary Award from the Supreme Council of Culture on Art Day (1980), a Certificate of Appreciation from the Fine Arts Associations Administration (1983), a Certificate of Merit from Cairo Governorate (1990), and a Certificate of Appreciation from the Workers’ Union (1992). His works are held in private collections in Egypt, The Gulf, Europe, USA and Canada. His artworks are also part of public collections, including the Ministry of Culture, the Egyptian Museum of Modern Art, the General Information Authority, the New Valley City Council, the New Valley Governorate, the Agricultural Professions Syndicate, and the Desert Development Authority. In his early career, he focused on documenting environmental and social aspects of life in Cairo, the Western Desert oases, and Sinai. In his later years, his realistic approach incorporated traditional elements and Islamic decorative motifs, reflecting a deep engagement with heritage and artistic legacy.
